Modelling chemical reactions using semiconductor quantum dots
We propose the use of semiconductor quantum dots for simulating chemical reactions, as electrons are redistributed among such artificial atoms. We show that it is possible to achieve various reaction regimes and obtain different reaction products by varying the speed of voltage changes applied to the gates forming quantum dots. Considering the simplest possible reaction, H2 +H→H+H2, we show how...
متن کاملSlow light using semiconductor quantum dots
A variable semiconductor optical buffer based on the electromagnetically induced transparency in a quantum dot waveguide is theoretically investigated with feasible parameters for applications to a 40 Gbps optical network. We show the refractive index and absorption spectra of the quantum dot waveguide at various pump levels, which exhibit an optimal pump power for maximum slow-down factor, in ...

The “Standard Model” of the Electronic Structure of Dots Progress made in the growth of “freestanding” (e.g., colloidal) quantum dotslt2 (see also articles in this issue by Nozik and MiCi6, and by Alivisatos) and in the growth of semiconductor-embedded (“self-assembled”) dots3p4 (see also the article by Bimberg, Grundmann, and Ledentsov in this issue) has opened the door to new and exciting spe...

Cdo.5Mno.5S diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) quantum dots (QDs) of crystallite size ranging from 24 A to the bulk have been chemically synthesized using an aqueous solution precipitation method and thermal annealing. Subsequent characterization indicates that the "as prepared" material is of the cubic zinc blende structure which evolves with increasing size to the bulk hexagonal wurtzite st...
متن کاملSemiconductor Quantum Dots in Chemical Sensors and Biosensors
Quantum dots are nanometre-scale semiconductor crystals with unique optical properties that are advantageous for the development of novel chemical sensors and biosensors. The surface chemistry of luminescent quantum dots has encouraged the development of multiple probes based on linked recognition molecules such as peptides, nucleic acids or small-molecule ligands. This review overviews the des...
